Does Instagram support glitch text?
Instagram fully supports Unicode combining marks across bios, post captions, Reels descriptions, and comment threads. Because Instagram displays text using modern system fonts on iOS and Android, stacked diacritical marks render smoothly without converting into broken symbols.
Instagram field limits & glitch safety
Every field on Instagram treats Unicode text differently. Here is where glitch text is safe to use and where it is restricted:
| Field | Limit | Glitch Safety | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Account Username (@handle) | 30 characters | Blocked | Alphanumeric, dots, and underscores only. |
| Profile Display Name | 30 characters | Moderate | Keep intensity low so users can still search for your account. |
| Profile Bio | 150 characters | Moderate | Code-point budget limits heavy glitch text to 10–20 words. |
| Post Captions & Reels | 2,200 characters | Safe | High ceiling allows heavy zalgo and dramatic effects. |
| Comments | 1,000 characters | Safe | Renders cleanly across mobile app and web. |
How to avoid getting your text rejected on Instagram
- For Instagram bios, stick to Subtle or Balanced glitch intensity. If your text exceeds 150 code points, Instagram will display an error saying "Bio must be 150 characters or fewer".
- Captions and Reels descriptions offer a 2,200 character budget, leaving plenty of room for heavy zalgo and dripping horror text without hitting limits.
- Instagram account handles (@usernames) do NOT support glitch text or Unicode diacritics. Usernames only accept lowercase letters, numbers, periods, and underscores.
- Display names (the bold name above your bio) support Unicode text up to 30 characters, but excessive through-line marks can make your profile harder to find in Instagram search.

Frequently asked questions
Does glitch text work in an Instagram bio?
Yes, Instagram bios accept standard Unicode text including combining marks. However, the 150-character limit counts every invisible combining mark, so high glitch intensity consumes your limit quickly.
Why does Instagram reject my bio when I paste glitch text?
Instagram counts total Unicode code points. If your visible text is short but has 150+ stacked diacritical marks, the app flags it as exceeding the 150-character limit. Lower the "Through" and "Above" sliders to reduce code point count.
Does glitch text work in Instagram captions and comments?
Yes. Captions have a generous 2,200 character limit, and comments have a 1,000 character limit, giving you ample headroom for chaotic zalgo and corrupted effects.
Will Instagram shadowban or flag accounts using glitch text?
No. Glitch text is plain Unicode text, not a script or exploit. As long as your text adheres to Instagram's community standards, using decorative Unicode is completely permitted.
